I've just taken delivery of the box-section steel roofing sheet, to replace the roofing felt on my summerhouse. The felt has never been very satisfactory, needing almost annual attention, due to damage from weather, birds and squirrels tearing it. I tried several local companies for quotes for the materials, but ended up finding the best/cheapest quote was from a company to deliver from almost 100 miles away at almost 1/3 cheaper, for exactly the same thing - galvanised steel, polyester colour coated. I first used it as my workshop roof, then I replaced my garage roof with it, now I'm tackling the summerhouse. It only suggested to have a lifetime of 10 to 15 years, but it has been on that long, with no sign of the slightest deterioration.

The cheapest quote, for everything, including delivery, came from a company in Brum, called Mighty Structural Products, an actual manufacturer.

I did my old garage roof in corrugated, plastic-coated steel too.

Much better than the corrugated cement that was cracked to booogery, and a biatch to dispose of......

That was probably asbestos. Hope you had lots of PPE gear.

Tested.
Wasn't.

Still wise to be protected against dust though (y)

Ended up having to go to asbestos waste though as, despite numerous correspondences, certificates, and in-person visits to the local tip, they wouldn't take it (after stating on a number of separate occasions that they would).

Fair enough, ironically it was probably all cracked due to the lack of asbestos, which was used as it was very good for fibre-reinforcing cement, to prevent cracking.

If you'd had the proper stuff then it would have been fine!

I'm amazed that steel roofing is actually a thing though, had never heard of it. I'm guessing it's pretty variable - company A's might be great, but company B's might be terrible and you won't know until ten years later.

Possibly, I now have three similar, but not quite the same profile sheet styles, and two different thicknesses - 0.75 and 0.50mm The specs., suggest the correct way too cut it is with tin-snips, because it smears the galv coating over the cut edge, protecting it.
