Are there any guidelines for the maximum depth of box which can be cut out of a breezeblock. I have two breeze blocks supporting part of the roof of an extension, and therefore cautious about weaking the supporting wall. I need a 35mm single lighting box cut out to 25mm. Would I be ok to do this ?

How thick is the block work?
What sort of blocks is the wall constructed from?

Hi, The block depth is 100mm. The breezeblock is quite soft material, not concrete - you could easily cut out a socket with a chisel.

Thanks.

If you want to cut out a square for your box, do you already have either a hole for cable entry or do you intend to chase the blocks as well? and...how high are these blocks?

Hi, Maybe I should post my question on the general building forum. Box is to be cut out from breeze block. Cable will lie on the surface of the breeze block. Quite simple. Not rocket science. Simple question.

If you're worried about it, surface mount the box. If you're not, chase it into the wall. Personally I'd chase it into the wall. Simple. Not rocket science.

If I thought any part of my house would be structurally weakened by cutting a 25mm box into it I would move out immediately!

No need to be an a**ehole. I personally think you should pay a structural engineer to advise you.
