I'm about to embark on fitting a new bathroom (or rather getting in a plumber to do it ;) ) and just in case I need some advice on boxing in the toilet waste flue (not sure what the technical term for this is)

At the mo it's already boxed in but it will need to be redone and will need to be reinforced to take the weight of a wall mounted sink. What size of wood will I need to get for the framework and how should it be fixed to the wall so it won't topple over as soon as the sink is attached to it?

I can't assume that the plumber will sort this out and I can't afford to get in anyone else to do it for me :( so any advice would be welcome thanks.

Its a wall mounted sink.
It will not be sitting on your 'box'

I think I may have confused you.

The boxing in will be floor to ceiling so the sink is going to be attached to the boxed in part not on it.

for any weight bearing structure i would say 50x50mm timber section is as small as you want to go. i would be tempted to face it off with 18mm ply as you can tile it and have the benefit of fixing opportunities just about anywhere on the ply.

Thanks noseall. Do you mean that the ply itself could take the weight of the sink without having to use a strut? Would I need extra strong plugs for that?

Also what should I use to anchor the frame to the wall?

Normal screws and wallplugs will do, or get some of these Great for fixing timber to brick and no plug needed. They come in different lengths, so add 50mm to thickness of the timber. You will also need a T30 torx bit in your driver.

You might as well get a few lengths of 3x2 cls for the framework. By all means fix a horizontal (or 2 vertical) lengths to support the sink if you already know exactly where it's gonna go.

Hollow wall anchor or toggle fixing for the basin otherwise.

Brilliant Deluks :D thanks for the advice on fixings. I almost know what I'm doing now!

That was a late one last night btw
