boxing in up to coving

hi there i have two sets of radiator pipes coming down at two opposite ends of my living room wall. i want to box these pipes in, but have coving fitted. I was wondering what was the best way to achieve a good finish is it to cut the wood to the profile of the coving, or cut the coving so the wood finishes at ceiling height ??? hope this makes sense

If you can manage it scribe the wood to the coving using a coping saw. You may find it easier to make a thin hardboard or plywood template first before cutting the thicker boxing-in materials
