What's the secret to wiring up these brass lampholders:

http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TLBLHslashSBC.html

Its got me stumped!
I have some 3-core dangling from the ceiling rose. Wiring in this brass lampholder looks impossible...I thought the top of it unscrewed like the plastic lampholders. Apparently not.

Question: Could I safely wire up a standard plastic lampholder (which have no earth terminal) instead?

isnt that type of thing for standing-on-the-floor type lamps - not dangling from the ceiling, possibly due to lack of cable restraint?

yes, use a plastic one - good idea.

Its a direct replacement for the old brass one which was already in place. I wanted to fit a new lamp shade and so needed to disassemble the existing fitting.
To remove the old one, I eventually had to snip the 3-core cable just above it -- I couldn't work out how to unscrew and disconnect it!

Think I'll use a plastic one, instead.

There are two rings. The first one to be unscrewed holds the lampshade. The second one holds the two parts of the brass lampholder together. When unscrewed, they fall apart releasing the ceramic terminal and spring loaded contact assembly.
