Brexit Negotiations proceeding, er...... well...... er....

The US is not interested in a treaty that allows us to sell stuff to them. They want a treaty that allows them to sell stuff to us, with no pettifogging rules about standards.

Trump cancelled the steel imports treaties on a whim, to try to protect US steelmaking jobs.

Did you know they refuse to import Haggis?

The UK has hardly any competent and experienced trade negotiators, and those we have are going to be fully occupied trying to sort out the Brexit disaster for the remainder of their working lives.

US trade negotiators (who are mostly recruited from the industries that will be doing the trading, so they can insist on whatever suits them best) are not used to actual negotiations. They are so big and powerful that they expect the other side to roll over and give in.

"Our usual approach is to fax them our terms and tell them to sign"

How do you think UK Agribusiness will cope if we have free trade for the US to flood us with hormone-enhanced factory milk, and cheap meat produced in inhumane conditions from growth-hormone-treated animals?
Mmm sounds almost as appealing as french farmers force feeding geese or Bulgarian horse burgers.

No point in rushing the job if you are on a day rate with no fixed completion date.. eh?
Are you suggesting negotiators are deliberately prolonging talks in an effort to get paid over a longer period? Surely that will apply to UK negotiators also? Do seriously think this is a reason trade deals take so long?

part of the reason , snouts in trough

plus having 28 pencil pushing teams who then have to go back to national goverments and ask them etc etc

bunch of wasters tbh

Each day and negotiations are not going well. We will not get access to the single market and migration control.

Says the EU who put a time limit on discussions and were begging Theresa to start negotiations.

I thought thats we were fighting against - the lack of democracy in the EU, how dare the country representatives go back to their own countries to ratify agreements.

The two year period has been in the treaty long before the Brexit vote. Guess the nationality of the man who drafted it?

"begging?"

nonsense.

Impatiently suggesting she pull her finger out of her arse and get on with proceeding, yes.

So what you and Corgifoxtrotoscarfireandice are saying is that in spite of the fact that a speedy negotiation would be hugely financially beneficial for the trading nations and in spite of the fact the negotiators are earning a salary irrespective of whether they are negotiating or not and that a speedy deal would likely mean financial bonuses for the negotiating team - they are prolonging it so that they can benefit by the square root of feck all?

Seems like the two of you have been drinking the RWR chalice again.

A 2 year time frame was written into the treaty way back , sketchy details as well , because they did not believe any one would actually invoke the article & leave the EU :)

US/eu trade talks 8 years & the only agreement was to agree to disagree. :)

they argued about the seating arrangements , menu , hotels ,turtle wax , alchol content of Belgium beer , wording on French Cd's, Cd classifications (French)

cheese ,hot dogs

all that probably took years. :)
