Picture to illustrate what I'm talking about:
There's a line of bricks on top of the wall just at the side of the roof. I had a couple of roofers in to inquire about ventilation (another thread/discussion - one said I don't need to, one said I need ridge vents AND tile vents), and while they were there asked them about those bricks.
They said the bricks were probably left behind by the roofers when the new roof was installed (we just moved in this year, roof was probably done about 5ish years ago by the previous previous owners, looks well done and in good condition, with proper membrane as can be seen in the pic). In some spots, again as can be seen in the picture, the bricks aren't there anymore.
I'm putting Kingspan insulation boards between the rafters now, and roofers advised to get rid of the bricks so that I can push the Kingspan down all the way to reach over the end wall. Which I did in some places. But in some spots, the bricks seem quite hard to remove - some mortar still left to keep them in place. They don't seem to hold anything, and in my mind just prevent potential ventilation coming up from the soffits, and if I don't push the insulation over the wall but "stop" before, IF there's any condensation in between roof/membrane and the Kingspan (I'm leaving a 50mm air gap) that condensations is dripping onto the ceiling boards.
Thoughts? Should I hit the bricks that are still in place with mortar to make sure I can get rid of all of them, or leave them as they are? Does anyone know if they were supposed to have a function, or just "leftovers" from old roof structure?
