What is the method of bricking a wall that is not a whole number of bricks long. For example if the wall is say 10 and 1/3 bricks long.

(The wall will be 9 inches thick (english bond) in some places and a half brick thick (100mm, stretcher bond) in others)

Is it to increase the width of the perpends (vertical mortar joints) :?:
or to use a part brick (bat). :?:

If using brick bats, are there any tips for maintaining a good bond.

No the joint must be 10mm. You either have 1/3 brick in the middle every other row or on each end after the stretcher brick every other one or you may have to use a closer brick. The picture details are in the pdf link.
