britony combi 80 boiler problem - last question honest!

Can anyone please help, i have a problem with my britony combi 80 boiler, when the central heating is turned on the boiler fires and then shuts off, but the hot water stays on when its running, i had the identical problem 3 or 4 years ago and called out engineers to fix it, i vaguely remember him replacing the overheat thermostat. could this be the same problem and if so where can i source the overheat thermostat.

Doubtful
COuld be pump. blocked filter, faulty switchery, sensor, all sorts.
Time or a corgi to visit, methinks.

An update on the boiler, the boiler seems to be running constantly even when the selector switch is set to 0, it keeps trying to fire and then clicks off, the reset switch also does not work.

hot water still works fine.

Any ideas ? is my best option to use the british gas they have quoted £168.00

Its easy enough to check the return CH filter yourself.

However, it sounds as if you have two faults.

You might find BG are strict about their one fault policy.

It all depends on what the fault(s) are.

You could also check the two flow switches yourself, if you are competent.

The one thing i forgot to mention when the hot water was running i noticed the radiator in the bathroom started receiving hot water, and then stopped when the tap was turned off. Does this sound like a valve problem?

Following on from your last reply (thanks by the way).

i presume checking the central heating filter requires fully draining the boiler?

Will the filter simply need cleaning, and why would the reset button no longer work?

how do you check the Flow switches?
sorry for all the questions im just trying to exhaust all avenues before i get some one in and shell out money.

More help needed.

Last night i left the HW running for 15 mins (working fine) and then switched the central heating on and the boiler fired and continued to run fine.

I then switched the central heating off prior to going to bed.

Then at about 4 o'clock this morning i heard the boiler firing up and turning off this continued until i un plugged the unit prior to going to work.

What is this problem? any ideas

Cheers undercover, i presume this is something i will have have to get an expert in to sort? or can it be carried out by a lay person (me), if so where can i get spares for this (pile of ****) boiler.

Your boiler appears to have multiple faults. You say despite the boiler being turned to 0 it still fires up...have you checked the spindle is not sheared off etc.

Have you tried disconnecting the hot water flowswitch connector. The flowswitch often fails causing the boiler to fire up every so often preventing the heating from operating.

Another fault could be a sticking diverter valve.

I suggest you get someone in.

Right i think ive sussed i disconnected the DHW flow stat and the central heating worked fine and the reset switch worked, when i reconnectd the flow stat i have the same problems.

Where can i get a replacement DHW flow stat for a britony combi 80 boiler, and whats the procedure for draining prior to removing this switch, is it a case of turning off the mains and drain from the points indicated in the manual.

You could further check by checking the continuity of the DHW flowstat..it's probably short circuit (reed switch stuck on).

When in central heating mode led lights on front are solid showing heating temp, when in hot water mode lights are moving.

Eats shoots and leaves! Why does he have to isolate the drain?

I was once fooled by one of those flow switches. I measured its continuity which was fine! Only problem it was about 30,000 ohms in the off position and the boiler still saw that as a demand for DHW !
