Hi all,
I live in a place with phone installation but no phone line as it was cut off by the old owner. I am intended to leave the country within the next four five months and would like to have broadband as cheap as possible using just my laptop and a pay as you go phone. I do not want to pay 1 or more years contract as I would have to pay penalty fees when I leave. Any suggestions?

To my knowledge, there are no providers of 3G on a pay as you go scenario, so mobile internet is out. You could try looking at the post office. I believe that they do not have a 1 year minimum contract length for their phone lines.

vodafone do a monthly 3G package which you can cancel at any time. Not sure on the price to get the usb 3g adaptor but might be worth considering - used it in the back of beyond in oxfordshire and got a decentish 380kb/s out of it.

Thanks I will check this weekend. I have been told the 3G option is not cheap for what I need but probably I will have to take a similar option...

could you not find a neibour with a wirless router and offer to split the cost 50/50 if they leave it on when you need it!!!

I already tried share it with my neighbour, but we do not talk to each other, probably he did not like me cheating up his wife....jokes apart, yes that would be the best solution. I have asked how much it would cost me for BT to get my landline re-connected and they told me £150, as the old occupants let a bad record!!so... no way! I suppose I will need to talk to my neighbour...
