Good afternoon!
Last week I had complete a bathroom refit done by a plumber.
This week I noticed the sink was dripping. Unfortunately the plumber is on holiday for two weeks so I need to wait two weeks to have the issue rectified.
I've checked the sink and noticed the waste nut was cracked.

I've managed to remove it and noticed is broken in a few places.
When I removed the waste nut I've noticed the bottom of the waste and the basin trap aren't aligned when resting. To put the waste inside the waste trap I need to push the pipe backwards.

Could this be the cause of the nut breaking after less than a week?
Thank you!

It's possible.
Depends how mush stress is on joint. Should be any ideally

Thanks, should I ask the plumber to cut half a inch of the pipe running horizontally so to have less stress on the joint?
Also just wondering as the waste pipe is moving, to get the waste in, can this cause any damage to the pipe itself too or I'm just being paranoid?
Thank you!

If the waste pipe and trap is quite loose then that shouldn't have caused the nut to crack. Quite simply that's definitely been overtightened. All they need is to be hand tight and then a turn to nip up with a pair of grips.

No excuse for not getting the waste pipe and trap lined up though, that's just poor workmanship.
