Hi all,

I recently had my drain unblocked and discovered that the gutter pipe (clay, 6in diameter, about 2ft long) in the main drain had been broken and had a piece, about the size of a hand, missing from it. I'd like to know what my options are;
1. Is it a professional job to remove and replace the gutter pipe ?
2. Can I patch it with (special ?) cement ?
3. How serious/urgent is it ?

Many Thanks.

my 2p worth
1) depends how good you are, dig old out, put new in

2) wont the cement fall in?

3) lets vermin in / out as well as any other crud causing another blockage

where exactly is this pipe? as you call it gutter pipe, but you also said its brown, that makes it drainage pipe

you need a knowledge of available drain fittings and an angle grinder for this job.

if you have neither then don't attempt it.

This should be in the plumbing section, it has been moved in error.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I'm probably using the wrong name. By 'gutter pipe' I mean the trough in the drain inspection chamber. It's got a piece missing...

builders do tend to install the underground drains, i rarely see a plumber with a shovel in his hand and would not put underground drainage in the plumbing section.

If its in the inspection chamber its not broken its meant to be like that. How else are you going to rod out any blockage.
Just out of interest what was the blockage used Nappies or just the day after a bloomin good Vindaloo ?
