Hi, this is my first post on this site as always found it uselful before :)

I have upvc double glazed windows in my bedroom and in two of the opening units, there is a hole in the outer pane. It's almost like someone has fired a ball bearing gun at it as the hole is tiny but it's caused a bigger explosion on the inside, making it really noticeable.
I was wondering if the outer pane can be replaced or would I have to get the whole opening unit replaced? Is this a job that could be done myself as I imagine it's only a case of unscrewing one and screwing in another (sorry if I have really over simplified a far more complex job). If it can be done myself, any suggestions as to where I could be an opening unit as searches on google always bring up the big companies and the big price tags!!

Thanks in advance

Jay

DG units are 2 panes of glass sealed together hence the term 'sealed unit' so only replacing the outer or the broken pane is not a task any glass shop would undertake, it would be easier, cheaper and quicker to make a complete new sealed unit.

Yes you can do it yourself if you have a bit of a clue and some diy knowledge

Well first you need sizes, the glass is held in place with glazing beads internally or externally - i don't know which you have? Once you have the width and height and the all important overall thickness of the dgu then you approach a 'sealed unit manufacturer', google for one in your area, a neighbouring colleague uses West Heath glass for his units but there are plenty others, do not under any circumstances ask a window manufacturer to come and do it, it'll be 4 times the price
