Snapped off at the head.

So -
  1. Replace with a wooden one?
  2. Replace with a fiberglass or composite one? (is it worth all the cleaning effort? It's an old and no doubt manky-inside head).
  3. Decide that life is too short and just buy a new hammer?

bas,

Buy a new one - always.

As a replacement, buy any new hammer from pin hammers to sledge hammers - dont risk the head flying off a repair.
Most modern joiners cant safely fit shafts - not their fault, just the way things are.

I'm not a joiner. Neither was my Dad, and I think he fitted the handle to the thing half a century ago or more.

So I guess the next Q is buy one with a wooden handle, or a fiberglass or composite one?

Why?

[Not a challenge - a genuine Q, as I have no idea of the relative merits. Wood was all there was when I were a lad..... ]
