Hi, when I turn on the hot water taps in the upstairs bathroom I have brown water appear for a little while then it clears. I also have the small header tank constantly overflowing with warm water. The small header tank is full with brown coloured water. What might be the problem?

Hi Dan, interestingly, we had a new cylinder installed about 10yrs ago. Also, the brown water output upstairs has stopped altogether BUT the header tank is still overflowing. Is still likely to be a cylinder issue?

Thanks
John

Your hot water cylinder is goosed.

10 years - you must have agressive water  It might be worth looking ( via google) for a company who will make you a Grade 2 , or equivalent , cylinder - most standard ones are Grade 3 .

Hence why you put Fernox (spelling??) in the system?

Thanks for the advice Dan but sounds expensive!

Regards,
John

Because they are continually being dosed with fresh water and will rust.

Get a new stainless steel cylinder.

Screwfix?

I think their SS cylinders would be a candidate for the £15 if they dont get it for you the next day!

They dont seem to have any SS cylinders anywhere!
