Many people I know use Mozilla Sucks-c*cks as their browser.

Is it just me or does it not work with DIYnot properly? Emoticons are all placed at the end, and highlighting text before using the formatting controls doesn't work (tags placed at the end). I've also noticed a few other (non forum) websites don't work 100%.

Is this just a configuration issue?

I know IE isn't totally standard, and has it's own quirks, but this is overcome because most people check their sites work with it. And I am yet to find a site that doesn't work properly (as far as I can ascertain) with IE.

I would love to try a different browser, but there's no way I'm switching to Firefox now!

I am sure you will appreciate this is just gleaned from experimenting and playing ... Doesn't make things right, but allows you some freedom of use with the less vulnerable browser.
The problem you have found is / was apparently under scrutiny both by the FF and Opera teams.
Being a young chap of (mostly) impeccable manners I am sure your response will be, at worst genial, during these turbulent times at DN.

You probably would if editing etc using the menu buttons on here. .. But like you didn't say, something a Plumber cannot handle.

I gave up using Firefox after less than an hour precisely because of that problem.

IT IS BROKEN.

The extensions don't really help - they allow you to add BBCode tags via several levels of clanky context menus, they don't fix the problem of the forum buttons not working....

Got to agree with BAS here, the only other browser I use, on my laptop, is Opera. On this machine I went back to IE after a few hours. I don't want the hassle of solving issues with my browser in order to use it.

Yes IE has a few issues, but it is the better one.

I asked my brother about it, he says it is because websites often don't 100% conform to the HTML standard, but because most of the world uses IE they don't worry so long as it works fine on IE.

But to me, whilst I don't think the HTML group should necessarily have to change their standards to meet Microsoft's wants, if someone releases a new browser they should try to make it 100% compatible with IE as well as able to claim 100% conformance with the standard.

I know it's less vulnerable, but I'm not in a hurry to change just yet.

Personally I don't really like the automagical 'dictate' Microsoft has in this world. Where every possible I use different non-microsoft programs, not just to support the 'underdogs' but also because most of these programs are better, more practical and often easier to use than MS.

I use Firefox since someone here made me aware of it and have hardly any problems with it, I've been using Edora (Qualcomm) as email program, Group mail lite for bulk mail and TimeWrite Lite as timewriter and planning program.

But then I also use MYOB as bookkeeping program instead of Quickbooks or Sage.

I used to be anti-Microsoft, but then I realised that I don't have a problem with other large companies with monopolies or massive customer bases:

1) I drive a General Motors car (why not buy a low-volume car made in a barn in Somerset?)
2) I subscribe to Sky TV (I could have gone with Home Choice)
3) Pretty much every consumer electronics product I own is made by Sony (I could be buying Bush and Thomson stuff, but I like Sony quality and dare I say it... the badge)
4) I shop at Sainsbury's and Tesco (even for things I should really be buying at greengrocer and butchers' shops)

I realised that avoiding MS on principle would mean I would have to apply those principles to everything, and that would mean spending a LOT of my free time evaluating products from different vendors, for my own use.

It is good to go with "the underdog" when you can, but sometimes it is a lot of hassle. The benefit is, however, that often the underdogs produce something wonderful to get noticed... But in my experience, they then get bought up by one of the big boys and that wonderful functionality ends up in another piece of industry-standard bloatware.

I once tried out some "underdog" video-compression software called TMPGenc... worked very well and very efficiently. Went to the website last week, found out they have been bought out
