I need to install another land line into my domestic property. Can anyone tell me if BT will / can use the same cable from the pole as I know this has a couple of spare conductors? This would prevent a new cable being installed which would entail running it on top of my skirting board to the new outlet location adjacent the existing.

Alternatively does anyone know if i can get another line via my existing BT broadband line such as a VOIP connection or similar which BT used to do but sadly do no longer?

Thanks

You could sign up for VoIP from many suppliers, and most will be able to provide you with a choice of 'local' phone number for service. Google "SIP TRUNKS".

BT will usually be able to install a second phone socket adjacent your first on a completely seperate line. It is in BT's interest (and the engineers) if they can install this without having to install further cabling!

Thanks ill look into the SIP TRUNKS, would still like to hear from a BT installer on the cable front.

Thanks

Modern "drop wire" is typically 2 pairs with some strength members. If this is what's present, then yes, they will use it - as said, it saves them work.
Internally, it's common to have 3 pair cabling to extensions, and ahain you can use a pair for the second line (typically the green pair isn't used, even if it's been connected at the sockets.
