I've been eyeing up the FTTP stuff that has been appearing in my neighbourhood recently. It all is using the newfangled connctorised DPs and a few customer services seem to be getting plugged in.

Anyway I noticed that the fiber "dropwire" seems to be a "siamese" cable of some sort. The thicker part goes to the plug that is plugged into the connectorised DP, the thinner part seems to be simply bundled up.

Anyone know what the thinner part is for?

Copper pair? Which BT have said they are doing away with, but maybe they're just using up old cable?
