Find him and give him a "Glasgow Kiss". Jokes aside, trace him and request an explanation. Then the small claims route.

What contract exists between you?
Have you checked if he has a CCJ?

No point in suing someone who can’t pay

Know about boilers but not much contact with builders ( and don’t contract to builders either)
