Hi All I am slowly doing out my bathroom, ceilings done and the lights ,working my way round ! I have a water heater tank in the corner and would like some fancy new cupboard with upper shelving to hide it and store towels in ect above. There is no way I am capable of that , so wonder if there is a company that makes these things to stock or order as Im sure I am not the only one who needs to hide his old tank in his lovely new bathroom ,(I hope!! ) Or do I call a local carpenter and ask him for ideas and prices,(im worried I may end up with something I could have knocked up myself with sellotape and bluetac!
 ok but you know what I mean !

Hi Mikell

I doubt that you'll find an "off the shelf" solution (sorry, no pun intended  ). As a joinery type I'd probably make-up a "half carcass" (i.e. 2 sides) from MDF and fix it to battens on the wall. Fitting out the interior is relatively straight forward as airing cupboards are generally only given open lath shelves (to allow free circulation of warm air) which can be nailed or screwed together. This should be a straightforward enough job to do either yourself or for the local joiner to tackle. If you want something a bit fancier you could apply a false frame and panel effect using 6mm MDF to create the panels and a bit of MDF skirting (or pine for that matter) can help make a boxing-in job like this look a lot more "integral"

BTW, we don't all use Blue Tac and sticky tape. I graduated to sticky-back plastic years ago ;)

The main thing in a bathroom is to use MR-MDF (moisture resistant MDF, or the green stuff).

Before starting do a drawing with dimensions for what you're going to make. If you really need to visualise this sort of thing then go and download Google Sketch-Up, amazing piece of 3D CAD software, but also easy to learn (at least the basics) and best of all it's free! Buy your materials from a supplier who will cut the sheets down to size for you. Here is a sample SU drawing which took me all of 10 minutes to do:

Quite a handy tool that Sketch up Scrit. Nice one.
Don't suppose you want to tell me how you changed the dimension units to mm do you? I've changed it in preferences but it still displays in inches.
