Hi there all you builders.

I want to build a partition wall with a single door in my bedroom to box in the built in wardrobe i have made. What type of wood is best used for this and the easiest way about going about it.

I did want some sliding doors but on the sites you buy them from they are over 200 quid so i thought this would be easier. Or if anyone knows how to make some sliding doors and runner tracks id be very interested also.

Thanks ever so much Darren

You can use any size wood from say 2" x 2" through to 3" x 2" and maxing at 4" x 2". Go bigger if you need to but it is pointless.

Generally speaking the larger the section the less it is prone to warping etc, so it is for this reason we tend to use 4" x 2" most often.

Door casings are purpose made for 3" and 4" studs, but it is possible to rip one down to suit lesser timber sizes.

Making your own sliding door gear is not a good idea.

Use CLS timber.

Sliding door gear is available from screwfix and other places and you fit your own standard doors, or doors formed out of standard melamine backed chipbard
