Hi,
Can anyone tell me what to expect with building control regarding moving a bathroom upstairs. Currently the shower and W.C is next to kitchen downstairs. I was looking at a relatively simple install in the unused bedroom above.

1. Backer board on floor with tiles
2. 50mm battens with sound insulation between neighbouring property wall and again, backer board with PVC wall panels ( maybe tile )
3. Electrics \ ventilation completed/certified by Electrician.
4. Toilet waste is easy, just come through outside wall and marry on with existing pipe.

Was looking to do the work myself, other than electrics. How much info do Building Control require, is it detailed drawings and specs of materials or is a summary like above adequate ? Do Building control officers give technical advice or do they just tick pass and fail boxes ?

Thanks

If it's really straightforward, personally I wouldn't bother with a full plans application. You could do this on a building notice. Make sure the waste, water supply and electrics are installed according to the relevant regs, put in some extraction ventilation and.... not much else. just make sure that stuff is installed according to the guidelines. BC won't be interested in material specs, tiling, sound insulation. You'll get a certificate from the sparks to tick that box.

Thanks for the reply.
That sounds good, I was worried they'd turn up and start quoting all sorts of obscure regs, that would cost a fortune to comply with.

From what I understand, there will probably be two visits, would that be one at the very start of work i.e no flooring down / bare walls etc and one at the absolute end when everything is functional and decorated ?
