Bulkhead Cupboard Floor?

In my small bedroom, there’s a built-in cupboard above the bulkhead. It’s quite large, and I’m in the process of cleaning it out and repainting. However, the flooring inside is just bare floorboards, and I’m not a fan of how they look, especially since I plan to use the cupboard for storing clothes.

I was thinking of laying down lino, wooden flooring, or cork tiles to give it a cleaner, more finished look. However, after doing a quick Google search, I read that adding flooring over floorboards in a cupboard with low ventilation could potentially cause damp and mold issues.

Has anyone tried something similar or have suggestions for flooring that works well in this kind of space? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: Just thought about adding ventilation vents on doors? not sure if that will work? This bedroom is very damp prone.

If the built in is dry and free from damp it shouldn't be a problem. If you're concerned, sand back the boards and paint

Damp/mould shouldn’t be a problem unless it’s against a damp exterior wall.
