Hi all

Just wondering if anyone knows if my home contents insurance is void without a working burglar alarm?

I've been though the booket and cant see anything.

I have the silver Halifax home and conetns insurance.

Please also see photo. I've read though everything but can't find the answer.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

If you get a discount for house alarm but it's not working when your robbed could cause problems so I understand

Read the actual policy that you have with your name and address on, and cost.

There may be some 'endorsements' wrt alarm (if you declared a working, professionally maintained system), and/or other things specific to your insurance that the general booklet doesn't (need to) include.

Alternatively you could ask the Insurer?

There are a things you need to be aware of:-

If you tell the insurance company you have an alarm system you must full set and part set the system for the insurance to be valid.

You are unlikely to save any money on premiums that are worth shouting about.

If the system is monitored or police response the cost to maintain it usually out strip any savings made on the premiums.

We advise all our customers not to declare an alarm system so that they are not subjected to insurance quirks like was the alarm set at the time, some insurance companies will check the logs to prove it was or wasn't set and that the alarm system has records to show it has been maintained.

If an insurance company thinks you are high risk they may impose limitations as to what grade of system you are required to have and will want to see certification for the system and that it is maintained.
