Hi, i have a worcester bosch oil fired central heating boiler which cuts out after about 10-15mins. Heats the radiators but then flames out, blead supply line and pump, cleaned photo cell but still cutting out, was wondering if the control box controls the feed to the coil on the solenoid, causing it to close and cut out.....ray

whats cutting out the overheat stat or the actual burner.if burner sounds like it COULD be the oil pump solenoid is on its way out.usually it will progress to the point it will need reseting more and more often.

is the burner locking out during a heating cycle i.e before the thermostat on the boiler has become satisfied or it it failing to comeback on after the boiler thermostat has switched the burner back on again :?:

photocell and control box are primary operators of the slonoid coil :?:

hi, the brner is going to lock out with orange light on but won't restart right away, needs to be left for a few minutes but then restarts once reset is pushed and runs for about 10min without reaching temp then flames out, can i bypass the solenoid or put a permenant supply to rule the satronic control box or coil out...

I wouldnt, the delay in reset could be due to the photo cell still seeing flame.
it sounds to like a carbon build up on the defuser/brake plate.
my advice would be to get a competant engineer in to investigate.

The TF 830 Control box fittedto this boiler cannot be reset for up to 2 mins, this is a safety feature, to prevent re-ignition, whilst the combustion chamber is potentially full of unburnt oil vapour, I would suggest as peviously mentioned that you repalce the Solenoid Coil, 90% Certain this will solve your problem ;)

I agree with boilerman2 & holty. it sounds like the fuel solenoid is goig open circuit when it gets warm. If you have a multimeter you can check this straight after it cuts out. If not fit a new solenoid.

easy fix. literally 2 min job.alls you need is solenoid, 15-20 pounds,an allen key, thats it. detach the two wires, unscrew.put new one on.

Or it could be virtually blocked filter.

Boiler runs drawing more fuel than filter will pass. Boiler cuts out with partial vacuum formed in supply pipe. While boiler is locked out fuel drawn into supply pipe and runs again after lockout period until fuel shortage causes lockout again.

Seen it loads of times on boilers not serviced regularly or where the filter has been ignored.

You are quite correct Alan, a badly blocked filter can give the same symptoms. The OP did say that he's "blead the supply line" which I hope means that he got a good oil flow.
(If you want to double check flanders, disconnect the inlet pipe to the oil pump, hold the oil line over a container and make sure that you get a decent and continuous oil flow. i.e. a flow that is the full bore of the pipe and not just a dribble out of the open end.!

Thanks guys, was indeed the coil breaking down, checked with my multimeter when it flamed out and was open circuit, FIXED for £16, boy am i a happy chappy wish i could buy you all beer....thanks again

A simple non invasive test is with a magnetic test stick.

However, if that is used its also necessary to ensure the supply voltage remains across the solenoid while the magnetic field has failed.
