Don't know if any of this is useful for you Moz, but my friend Neal has an apartment in Spain right by a golf course http://www.nealball.co.uk/apartment.htm and now is a partner in a business helping other people to buy property abroad www.a-home-or-business-abroad.com. He's not too good with the old web design, but his number's on the site and I'm sure he can give you some good advice if you say I pointed you in his direction!

i know a few people that have done the move to spain and all of them bought second hand houses that had been up for a few years

this is due to the new houses built being really bad quality the best way to do it is to buy a run down hovel with outright planning permission TO knock down and rebuild these are not hard to find and cost notalot

gl on the new adventure SENIOR

thanks very much for that link/phone number ,Cheers ;)

Slogger
regarding getting a new build , Ive seen some that are 24 months old now an they have dropped in price due too the high volume of properties on the market there ,
I wouldnt mind getting a ruin an doing it up like Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, I have mates who are retired to from the building trade an think it would be a good "craic !" ,
on mentioning this to her indoors , I got Told to Stop being Stupid ,lol..;)

once we have something you can pedal over on your push bike for a holiday ? lol

Would he give bad advice to people he doesn't know?

I wonder how they feel about us going down there buying up their property  I wonder how slogger would feel if a load of spanish people started buying up the houses round him  wonder if he'd invite them round to sample some typical english hosbitality  fish and chips washed down with a pint of cooking beer then a bit of english barn dancing. ;)

Good luck with the house hunting Moz.

Sorry to put a dampner on it, but if you decide to buy make sure you get a really good solicitor who knows Spanish law inside out - a lot of people have come a cropper buying property over there.

I recall seeing a documentary about this couple who bought a wonderful little house in the country - everything seemed fine until a few months later when they were told that the Spanish authorities decided to build some new houses near their home. This involved using part of their land to site a new access road. In a nutshell, the Spanish law allowed this to happen without contest, AND the people did not get any reimbursement for losing some of their land BUT, here is the 'best' bit - the couple had to pay the cost of building the road going through their land !!!

Well my in laws live in Nerja, house prices have fallen quite a bit in the last 12 months in the area, although Nerja itself you'll still be paying around £300,000 for a 3 bed villa with pool and sea view. It's also not a very cheap place to live as it has a large ex pat community. Further towards Malaga is Torrox which is cheaper than Nerja but not as nice.

If you want to get more for your money then you have to move inland, into the campo (countryside) the further inland you are generally the cheaper. May be worth checking out Competa, no sea view though and it can get "cold" due to being in the mountains.

The problem with moving inland is two-fold, obviously you're no longer near the sea, secondly you'll have to learn Spanish.

You'll have to be prepared to accept that anything on the coast is going to be at a premium price.

If you want to live in Nerja itself, you should have bought 5 years ago, house prices have more than doubled since then!! I wish you the best of luck

one of the problems seems to be that a distant relative that went to live in south america 100 yrs ago can come back and make a claim on the family home which may have been a donkey shed but now converted into a lovely villa with pool. ;)

Nah, just ensure you get the correct paperwork, title deeds, etc. You must use a specialist bilingual solicitor, there are loads of them in Nerja.

Learn the language, it'll have many benefits. It'll be loads cheaper to live and you'll be able to avoid the ex-pat scum. Also, if you live in the campo, in a good year food is incredibly cheap. You can gorge yourself on tomatoes, mangoes, limes, lemons, advacado, oranges etc etc, all completely free.

Put it this way in the UK our weekly shop is around £150, in Spain it was around 40 - 50 Euros.

Also avoid the 43 centimo (about 30p a litre) Coviran vino tinto (red wine), it will rot your guts.

Enjoy yourself, have a good look around, remember that nothing is shifting much at the mo' buyers market.

That scummy English ex pats chums dont appeal NOW,

I can go to my local boozer for that ,lol an they are covered up an not whale like nakiid ..lol Urrgh ..
