C16 graded timber joists- treated or not

Would new timber joists/roof rafters etc to a new extension have to be treated/tanalised or is this simply a matter of choice?

Matter of choice at the moment but no doubt it will come in some time.

If you had been joining to anything old/exisitng then i would have recommended you used treated for fear of possible cross contamination.
