I have got a load of cable tray and wish to extend it. At present the tray is metal with like a plastic coating on it which is black. it can be pealed of in places. Iwas just wondering if anyone know how old this stuff is?

firstly can you still buy it as would like to extend it further and also the age when was used thats assuming its no longer about just to date this building as there not much else to go by, just for interest purposes.

vaquely recall seing it in the early 80's i think it may have been desighned for bare pyro or for fridge and aircon pipework, possibly to stop reaction with the copper, as you say the plastic tended to split and peel away after some time, aint seen it for years

Ah not there for few days now so no pic at min. It's strange like a sorta soft plastic covering. I'll have to try get a pic and re post. The cables were held on by like orange clips that where I believe copper with the orange plastic coating which never seen before.

The cables on it were old too they were woven insulation on the outside either bright red yellow or green. And quite stiff cables held when bent

No not pyro just old control cable. Was copper and pos pvc. It's around furnaces so for thermal protection I guess.
