camray 5 oil burner problem...

hello I have a camray 5 oil burner,,,and its just started doing this,,,it fires up heats the rads till they hot then stops,,,then when they cool right down it starts heating them again and so on,,,same with the hot water,,,it fires up on morning and heats the water till its red hot,,,then a few hours later when the water has cooled and its only warmish the boiler wont fire again to heat it back up to hot,,,once the water has gone cold it will fire up again no problem and heat the water till its red hot again,,,its as if some kind of temperature sensor is faulty???,,,ive just had a new circulating pump fitted a few weeks ago if that means anything???

What Model Camray 5 is this is a Combi per chance?? could be that the pump is stopping with the burner I've seen this a few times usually down to a failed auxillary switch in the diverter valve actuator

Sounds like your control stat is not working so the boiler is relying and working on the limit stat alone, both stats are wired in tandem. Should the limit stat ever trip to prevent overheating, it needs a cool down period before a reset can be enabled.

To test that the control stat is working, ensure the limit neon indicator is lit then with system calling for heat check for live voltage present at the L1 terminal of the burner socket. No live at this terminal indicates control stat is not working.

Obviously the control stat should always be set to a lower temp than the limit stat to prevent nuisance resets such as you are experiencing.
