Hi all,
I need to make repairs to my house wall, I'll be removing an old vent and will need to replace around 10 bricks.
I'm having real trouble trying to identify the bricks to use, the house is of an age and construction where it could be a mix of anything! approx size is 2250 x 650 x 110 mm
Photo attached, can anyone help? Cant find them online anywhere!
Many Thanks

the holes are defects, not features. Where pieces of uncrushed limestone are left in the mill, they burn to quicklime, and when the wall is built and they absorb water, they expand and burst off. I hope nobody is still making bricks like that. You might get some from a demolition.

Thanks John, wondered what was going on there, the place is quite an age now. Any ideas of any new bricks that might match up close to the existing? I'm not expecting anything to be exact but if I can get as close as I can it'll be good. Cheers

no, try a demolition site.

It looks like the sort of 2nd quality bricks that would be used on a factory wall, not a nice house.

Mixed up second-hand bricks will merge in. Modern metric bricks are a bit thinner.

Have a look at some old Phorpres commons, they should match in. Getting the mortar a similar colour is often more important to the look.

You'll probably find that a fletton will be similar - even the arse end of a sandfaced one - available everywhere even DIY sheds. Or you could go for the British Gas look - any old modern brick and a bag of readymix black pug.;)
