Doing a quick freshen up to the bathroom.... not looking to spend a lot of time or money...looking to have it ripped out and replaced in a year or so....

Bathroom was installed/extended into eaves by a dodgy DIYer (before me!) - so he would have put up this wall...

Around the bath looks like plasterboard and has a splashback of a double row of 15 cm ceramic tiles.

We have a separate shower so the walls don't get very wet - but splashy children have sometimes got the paper just above the tiles - thought maybe I could increase the height by one or 2 rows of tiles.....

Never done tiling before - how easy/feasible would it be?

Guess I need to strip all the paper off completely down to the plasterboard...
(my kitchen tiles had been stuck to the old wallpaper in places - I was dreading chipping them off - in fact once I got behind them they more or less fell off  )

I don't think I need to worry too much about waterproofing because it is just the odd splash...

If the new tiles are a bit thinner can I just put more adhesive on??? Could this be a problem?

Read somewhere about weight/support - would I need to worry with cheap thin tiles - could I get away with 2 more rows (so 4 in total)????

Thanks for any advice....

Tiling is not difficult but is messy. If it is a temporary solution, it might be easier and cheeper to use plastic boards. My ex replaced the falling tiles around his bath with white-ish plastic boards from B&Q, they look similar to laminate floorboards but are used on walls or ceilings. It is not a posh solution but I have to admit, it looks much better than I expected.

yes its simple and NO you will have no weight issues at all, you MUST take the wallpaper off.

decide if you are going 1 or 2 rows high, mark along your wallpaper at this height, dont forget to include spacers when working out the height. Once its marked use a stanley knife or such and cut along your line, then strip paper off to the line.

Make sure you keep tiles in line with the old ones, be easier if you bought a grout rake and raked the grout out of the old joints just to get spacers in.

Probably the hardest part of your job would be raking the some of the old grout out, but even thats easy.GO FOR IT ;)
