I recently sanded and treated new oak sleepers with tung oil (three coats so far - all coats 50% white spirit to aid penetration). It doesn't give as dark a finish as I hoped (based on images that I'd seen on the net and worse, I just read that tung oil gives no UV protection and will not prevent greying under the sun.

Can I apply a dark oak wax on as my next couple of layers directly on top of the tung oil (sanding was quite and effort)? And does anyone recommend this product?

Fiddes dark oak wax.

I use linseed, and apply Colron to darken the wood first. It will not soak in so much now you have started oiling, but I also mix it into the oil to deepen the colour. I fear a coloured wax will just lie on the surface and will rub off or weather away.

Should be fine, it's an oil wax so will soak in and polish up well. I prefer the natural oak shade so just used a clear wax on mine [after a soak in Danish oil]

Does anyone recommend an exterior wax (preferably one that would darken and add UV protection). I'm currently considering sun shield wax.
