Can I block an airbrick?

Hi

In our kitchen we have an airbrick. Until Spring this year we had a boiler in the kitchen but that has been replaced by a combi-boiler upstairs. But we do still have a gas cooker. With the current cold weather the airbrick is not helping - can I cover it or is this a mistake?
