depening on ammount of space, then sister the susspected problem joists, bolting them with either coach screws or nuts/bolts and timber connectors,or screw on a long metal plate?
You could measure the depth of your joists go down to your local timber merchants and get them to cut a sheet of ply into strips the depth of your joists. buy some bolts as Gregers has said and put a length or ply each side of the split joists and then bolt them together. if the floor has sagged a bit you can level it up before you bolt the ply on.
"if the floor has sagged a bit you can level it up before you bolt the ply on."
Use a bottle jack or scissor jack (from your car) with a length of timber to ease up. Oh, and apply some building adhesive to the mating faces of joist/ply as well as the suggested mechanical fixings. Perhaps add some noggins here and there to add to the rigidity of the floor.
I'm hoping not to take up the floor boards as looking to sand them, but the first beam is cracked rather badly..
Could I knock out a few bricks in the supporting walls and slide in a new timber along side it, or would this be unfeasible?
