I aim to sell my house within the next 6 months.

The electrics throughout the house are in good order, however I am redoing the kitchen and need to add spots and extra sockets.

In previous properties I have carried this work out myself, but I understand you need to have a qualification to do this work now.

Can I legally carry out this work myself, or do I need to have a qualified electrician?

I've tried to find advice on the direct.gov.uk, but didn;t prove very useful.

Any thoughts would be appreciated - thanks.

As you are selling it is VITAL to have all of the required paperwork in place. This includes any notifiable electrical work (eg new circuits, any electrical work in bathrooms & kitchens) must have been notified to the local authority.

The link above details the options that you have re DIY versus using a registered spark.

You'll have grief tring to complete the sale without the legal bits all tied up. Buyers' solicitors look for any excuse to chop down the selling price & non-certified or non-notified electrical works is a prime target.
