Can I use a UPVC window in place of a velux?

Hi, wondered if anyone had ever fitted a UPVC unit into a pitched slate roof instead of a velux? The roof is being stripped and renewed but the skylight has seen better days and I would like to replace it with a larger one. I have a window about a meter square and this would bring in considerably more light.
Any advice would be appreciated.

erm no, not designed for purpose! even if you managed to engineer the window in it wouldnt be watertight! the idea seems preposterous actually.

the only part of the window you could use would be the glass, but even then you would have to build a frame.

You'll struggle to get the frame watertight and design appropriate soakers. Furthermore, you'll have standing water along the lower rail which will inevitably seep in.

As alistair said, proprs.....propstr......er bonkers really.

Velux cleverly price their product so that in order to replicate the performance of their product you will need to spend a lot of time faffing about getting it water tight and to actually work.

Stick with those who know. Velux seem to have it spot on.
