Hi Tyrone,
I'm not a fan of laminate and would always recommend wood.
If you wan't laminate then I think most manufacturers measure the toughness of the surface in tabres. I think most of the laminate sold in the high street is 9,000 to 9,500 tabre. The commercial stuff is heavier, but I have laid commercial 21,500 tabre laminate and the surface still chips, and the joints still gap.
I also wouldn't recommend the click stuff, but then if its only for a light application and your looking for an easy, clean installation, then the click stuff might be right for you.
All the best.

Thanks for your help, I cannot really afford wood flooring so laminate will have to do.

i've seen some stuff by quick-step and elka I like, does anyone have any opinions on these?

thanks
