We are having an extension built and the upstairs level is made from Timber with a pebbledash render on EML and breather paper.
Looking at the plans, the architect has requested a cavity of 38mm with insect mesh and a void between the plywood walls and the render.
However, the builder has not allowed for this amount of space and was expecting to render directly onto the ply, eml and breather paper but without installing the said cavity.
If the builder proceeds to render directly onto the wood, is this going to be a bad thing? I reckon it will be stronger than if there were a void and that the render is less likely to crack. Anyone else have any thoughts - should I insist on the void? The builder says that he has not seen a void on this type of building before!
ANY advice, much appreciated!!
