Looking to overhaul our roof. At the moment, we have Scottish slate - most of which will stay as only some aspects of roof need repaired.
We could either dress the slate and re-use, or replace. We have had a number of suggestions, ranging from Welsh to Canadian slate. Anyone used Canadian?
Does anyone know the differences? Cost and ease of use, longevity, etc.
Any advice would be gratefully received!

We use the Glendyne Canadian slate and find it very good. It is geologically almost identical to Welsh slate and is approx 2/3rds the price though they have recently been heavily affected by the exchange rate.

It may also be worth looking at Burlington slates too as they are good value at the moment.

One question though, how thick are the Scottish slates as they are traditionally that much thicker than other slates (esp imported ones)?

I can currently get a Canadian Glendyne natural slate for £2k per 1000 and in my opinion are second only to the very expensive Welsh Penrhyn, currently selling for £5k per 1000  They are lovely though, but I would go for the Glendynes tbh.
