Can't clean glass screen!?

I have a glass (I think) screen in the bathroom and cannot for the life of me keep it clean and smear free.
I don't know what it is made of (it came with the house), but no glass products work on it, neither does vinegar.
Can anyone advise of something?

Will need a new glass if it's glass, I was told it's to do with the reaction when the soap and water mixes together which damage the glass, to prevent it happening again you have to wipe the water off each time.

I'm afraid nothing will shift it as the glass surface is damaged but depend how bad it is. My glass shower is badly pitted so will be putting a film over the outside of the glass, it's like a silver/grey which looks like obscure glass
