I sent a folder with word documents in to the recycle bin knowing I could recover it.
I now need to see one of the files & none are in the recyle bin.

I only did this 30mins ago. So no defrag has happened etc.

I have googled but cant find a solution as yet.

Any help appreciated, running WinXP PRO

Have you tried doing a search for the file or folder just in case it's somewhere else?

I don't think system restore will work.

I've a feeling that if the folder isn't in the recycle bin and isn't anywhere else on your computer, then it's gone for good (unless you're real clever and know how to retrieve documents that are deleted - don't know how to do it, but I think it can be done).

yes your right
but as you know if it dosnt work then undo the restore so no loss and a 5 minuit wait!!!

Then don't guess.

No loss? If the files were in a deleted state then there is a chance of recovery if no files are moved or created. System restore, or any operation, could lose the files for ever.

big-all, do you have the first clue how computers work?

Diyisfun - it would be nice to know where you found those missing files, in case it benefits someone else in your situation.

very limmited hence the question marks

i was led to believe it was a fairly safe reversible prosses by the hype

thats the good thing about this forum when we with good intentions give suggstions others can correct us if we are wrong

FFS. Why don't you take responsibility for your bad advice?

If you want to ask a question then create a new topic, don't just vomit up a half-ars*d idea and rely on someone else to correct you.

There's enough to do in answering questions without having to spot people offering advice about something they've never encountered and have no idea how to fix.

Sorry cant remember, I was just so surprised at finding other data after a defrag

You may have fixed this by now, but a quick question.
Did you have the shift key pressed when you were deleting the files.
If you did, then you have permanently deleted them, no chance of normal restore methods will work.

Hi
Late in replying to this post - I only joined today - but it is worth recording an answer here for the use of others in the same position.
This problem is normally down to the user holding down Shift whilst hitting the Del button. It is a useful trick for quick and permanent deletion of large files but it isn't necessarily that permanent. I recommend that everyone should Google for a deleted file restorer such as REST2514 and save it to a flash drive or floppy for emergency use.
Deleted files aren't actually deleted from the hard drive, it is just the index that is deleted from the file allocation table. REST2514 will find deleted files and give you the option of recovering the file by copying it elsewhere. This works just as well for those precious photos you accidentally deleted from your camera memory card.
But the key to success is to act quickly before any other files get written to your drive as that could overwrite the file you are trying to recover. This is why I suggest downloading REST2514 to a flash drive. For maximum security download it on a different PC.
Just for the record I am not connected in any way with REST2514, just a big fan of theirs.
