I have this gas pipe that comes out of the side of the fireplace and down through the floor.
I realise that I will need a corgi registered plumber to cap the pipe, but I am trying to keep the costs down. I have already stopped the gas coming from the pipe into the fire with the isolation screw below the elbow.
My question is this, am I ok to chip out the concrete around the pipe myself so that all I need to pay the plumber to do is cap the pipe or is this something that is best left to the plumber to do?
Any advice appreciated.

If the pipe is isolated you can chip the screed around the pipe yourself.
Better, can't you trace the source of this pipe and cap it there?
Then you could simply cut that pipe flash and make good.

Not really, if you damage the pipe and the ECV is passing

Leave it to the gas safe registered engineer as they may have a better solution

if you are keeping carpet there might be no need to chop floor up as the cap /plug into the fitting coming out of floor depending on pile might get lost in it
