Hi All

I have built a single story extension and It has a parapet style flat roof that I have fibre glassed. Its cladded externally in Cedar and I am looking at coping/capping options for the parapet. Lead appears to be a far cheaper option compared to Aluminium capping or stone.

My question is, will I have any issues using lead along side cedar cladding? Will the cedar react to the lead if touching it? Will water run off from the lead stain the cedar?

Does anyone have any experience using these two materials together?

Cheers!

Lead won't react with the tannins in cedar. But finish the lead with a patination oil to stop it going white or getting uneven staining.

Make sure you form a suitable drip detail (as far off the faces as possible) so that water runs off the cladding and not down it - as that can lead to water staining.

Remember not to exceed the maximum lengths for the code of lead you are using, and make sure the laps and joints are suitable. This alone is normally the biggest issue with trying to use lead instead of other capping that can be done in one piece.
