capping unusual chimney pot

How would I go about capping this funny looking chimney pot? The chimney is being decommissioned, so it doesn't have to be a temporary job.

A slab might with side ventilation might be appropriate in your case

I'd drop the stack to a course or 2 above the flashing, slab or piece of slate on top and flaunch it.

Many thanks. In the end I got scared about the height and employed a roofer. He did as you suggested, with slate, side ventilation & flaunch (but no reduction in height). It looks fine.
