Hi everyone,

I have a Nissan pixo 1.0 (68 Hp) 2009 Petrol with 3 cylinders and 154.000 km on it.

For sometime now the car idles rough like every time it battles to stay alive and running, when on the road it runs fine but when coming to a stop after a bit it loses power (mostly after 1-2 secconds after coming to a stop).
Some days this happens a lot i mean in every stop i need to do, other days it may happen 1-2 times or not at all.

I have a new battary, i have replaced the spark plugs and ignition coil. Further more i cleaned the MAP sensor with MAF cleaner
and i went to a car mechanic to find the problem, he thought that it was the Τhrottle valve that needed to be cleaned because
carbon was build up but that wasnt the case apparently.

I dont have a problem with fuel pump its working fine.

That is all i know and have figured out. If anyone has anything to suggest checking out kindly say.

Thanks in advance everyone.

It could be a dirty IACV (Intake air control valve) that's not opening enough during idle, the engine receives little or no air and then it stalls and dies.

It also could be a vacuum leak. Do you hear any hissing sounds during idle? Have you got any fault codes?

Does the car feel sluggish when driving? If it does check your air filter and see if it's clogged.

no hissing sound, not codes check engine light never turned on. the car doesnt feel sluggish at all when driving its going great. I have replaced the air filter about 2 months ago.

how can you clean a IACV is it hard to do it by myself? do i need to go to a mechanic?.

I dont have a problem making small steps inorder to learn something/ fix something in my car but i dont want to try to fix something and by mistake break it or make it worse.

Thank you for your answer.

This is fairly typical of a throttle body on these, if it misbehaves every time.
Anyone nearby who can test it for you?

When i went to the mechanic about 1 month ago the throttle body was working fine he said he tested it by pressing the gas pedal and seeing the circle metal part on the throttle body moving as it shoud (closing and opening as it should). I mostly now think that the IACV valve may be at fault as the user jurassicspark mentioned before.

That is not a valid test!

The throttle body will move as the car drives fine. The mechanic should be testing how much the throttle body/IACV is opened during idle by either a scanner or by visual inspection.

I think this has the same throttle body as the Micra - which was always failing.
So much in fact, there weren’t any available second hand at one time.

I had exactly the same symptoms, on one of my Granada's, many years ago. It was solved, over the phone, simply talking to a specialist mechanic. It was the IACV, chocked up. I picked up a used one, fitted it in ten minutes, problem cured. It's a simple device, just a solenoid, operating a piston. Solenoid repeatedly firing, to set the air flow. Crude though they are, they work just fine, unless impeded by carbon build up.

okay so i searched about the IACV for my car and i cant find to buy one that can fit in the car. If any of you can suggest a way to find the right replacement for yhe IACV do tell, if not i can probably go to the mechanic and tell him to specifically check the IACV

Yes that would be the first port of call.

You'd be surprised by how quick these get clogged up.

Is this it?

Undo one electrical plug, and two bolts, and you can inspect it - check the plunger moves freely, check the seat, where it seals, maybe try freeing it with some lub.?
Well i mean i didnt have time to check the IACV in my engine, probably will do though on saturday. if any of you have a guide to where its located in the engine (i mean the whole throttle body in order to find the IACV) for the nissan pixo 2009 please inform me, send me link to a video or something because its the first time ill be doing something like that and i dont want to discnonnect something that im not supposed to or even brake something.

Thanks a lot for all your answers btw it really helps.

It will be on the upper part of the engine, in the area of the air filter, between air filter and air intake to the engine.
