I believe there are people who will take on the job of bargaining with car dealers. How do you find such a person?

I've never heard of individuals who do this, but car brokers are experts at this technique - simply because they can produce volume sales. They would provide a new car for the best possible deal, but often they don't want your trade in. The car will be sourced from UK and you pay the dealer direct - who in turn reimburses the broker.
There's nothing special about the technique, just visit as many dealers as you feel you can be bothered and see who wants to sell best. You may get a great deal on a car that has been registered to the dealer so is really second hand, with minimal miles. Buy these with confidence.
Avoid anything from a rental company unless the price is really rock bottom.
Obviously, there are usually finance deals and trade in values to be considered with the final deal.
One things for sure - private individuals never ever get one over the motor trade, and those who claim they can are talking rubbish!

I want a second-hand, late model XJ8.

Not much volume there.

I'd find a few dealers within say 100 miles, and check out their websites to see whats going......its also worth making yourself known to them should a suitable trade in come along.
For sure, the best and most recent trade ins will be on the forecourts of the main dealers......is the XJ8 a recent model?

X358?

I have an x350 3.5 that I bought a couple of years back for myself only to have it nicked by my wife who allows me the use of it now and again

Have a look on ebay and see if any are being sold on auction, watch what they go for and that will give you the real world value, you might even try buying one that way, I buy all mine from there but you will need to know something about them or take along someone who does. Some good bargains can be had.

Use the parkers website for a price check on the car, many dealers will go a few hundred above the top price and this seems to be the figure they will knock off. Joe public then thinks they are getting some kind of deal from them.

You don't sell them then John? :D

Peter

I always let it be known, Peter, that any vehicle, machine or indeed any work done by me carries my own unconditional twenty minute guarantee......or until I am out of sight - whichever is the sooner :p :D
