I have a very old but good Mercedes car radio, I also have the correct code to get it working. I want to install it in my caravan but without using the code as the battery is disconnected several times a year.
Does the sticking it in the freezer work or is it a fallacy??
Thanks

I doubt sticking it in the freezer will do it much good, I thought that this was done to reset the time between entering codes as opposed to wiping the code

put in a 2nd feed to the radio direct from the battery (via suitable fuse, obviously) this will keep the code and stored stations etc.

then wire the 2nd feed as normal, this will act as the ignition feed.

they use very little power when off anyway, I have not yet had my battery flattened, just have one of those £10 solar trickle chargers over winter.

On some models of radio, the code can be taken out for the very reason you describe. If you don't have the radio manual you might be able to get it online and find out in there.
