If battery was dead surely lights and radio wouldn't work the lights are bright would expect it to be dim ,

It takes a huge amount of current to turn the starter and only a small amount to run the lights......can you get someone to give you a jump start with some booster cables?
I guess there isn't enough current to engage the starter, hence the lights remaining on.

After you've bought a £10 meter to test the battery, have a look in the boot and see if the light is on.

perhaps it has been used daily, but your post suggests that the car has been parked up since the new battery went in two weeks ago.

Get the alternator checked.

Volt meter on battery with engine running circa 14v shows its charging the battery.

As above ............
Sounds as though you have another issue and changing the battery just disguised the problem.
1. Not charging properly when the engine is running
2. Discharging when stopped, because there is something switched on
3. Starter circuit problem, especially up around the battery, where the leads
were disturbed changing to the new one.
