Caring for semi-solid oiled floor

Hi folks,

We want to install wood flooring throughout a new house we are buying. We've heard too many warnings against solid wood and have decided now to get semi-solid boards.

I prefer the look of an oil finish and like that it can be refinished in smaller areas. However, the maintenance aspect of things is a problem for the wife. Would we really have to empty everything out of each room to re-oil it every 6 months to a year? This sounds like a mammoth job - especially considering that we would like to install it in every room (except kitchen and bathrooms).

Anyone any thoughts? Would we really need to clear out each room every year?

Depending on the use, potentially yes.

Think of it as not dissimilar to looking after as solid wood work surface in a kitchen, but this surface you regularly walk on.

You may wish to consider a UV Oiled Engineered floor which will require less maintenance of possibly a Matt Lacquered Engineered Floor which would require none of the maintenance that you require.

We find that we have a very large number of people intent on purchasing a solid or oiled floor simply because it sounds better, when you consider the use/maintenance required, you may decide that a different finish
