Hi everyone,

I hope this is ok in this section - it's not about stair structures, or about decorating necessarily.

I have attached two images of some stairs in my house:

I had a lady come out to measure for new carpet yesterday. She said it was really odd how the corners are filled in.

You see the triangle area, next to the stairs, against the wall. They have little triangle bits cut out and placed there.

The triangle bits can be removed as they're just placed there -not glued. But the wall beneath is really rough, and not painted, or smooth. It would look really poor I think to expose the triangle bits.

Any suggestions? Is this normal, have you seen this before? I wanted stripey carpet so not sure how best to deal with this.

Thanks everyone.

Normally timber there, you can remove the carpet and cut in triangles of mdf an then paint if you don't want to carpet them.
If staying with carpet an off-cut of plain carpet matching the base colour of the striped carpet would look OK.
